UAE says it is in ‘state of defense’ against Iranian attacks, does not seek escalation

ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates said Sunday it is in a “state of defense” following Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting the country.In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the “brutal and unprovoked Iranian assault” included the launch of more than 1,400 missiles and drones aimed at infrastructure and civilian sites across the country, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.The ministry said the attacks represent “a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the UAE’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” warning that they pose a threat to the country’s security and stability.The UAE said it does not seek escalation but emphasized that it retains the right to respond.“The UAE does not seek to be drawn into conflicts or escalation,” the ministry said, stressing that the country “reserves the full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, national security and territorial integrity in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.”Regional tensions have escalated since Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting several Gulf countries and Israel following joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory.
