RIYADH — A high ranking Saudi official strongly denied on Saturday reports circulated by some media outlets about a change in Saudi Arabia’s stance toward the escalation in the region. Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the official reaffirmed that such reports are inaccurate.“Saudi Arabia supports efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to all contentious issues between US and Iran through dialogue and diplomatic ways,” he said while emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s rejection to using its airspace or territory in any military actions against Iran. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian last week that the Kingdom would not allow its airspace or territory to be used for any military attack on Iran. During the call, the Crown Prince reiterated Saudi Arabia’s position in respecting the sovereignty of Iran, and that the Kingdom will not allow the use of its airspace or territory in any military actions against Iran or any attacks from any side, regardless of its destination. The US has threatened to attack Iran in recent weeks following Iran’s brutal crackdown on nationwide anti-government protests. President Donald Trump has also ordered the deployment of an aircraft carrier and additional military assets to the region in preparation for a potential attack.
