Qatar emir warns Trump of “serious repercussions” from regional escalation

DOHA — Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani warned that the escalating situation in the region could have “serious repercussions” for international security and peace during a phone call with US president Donald Trump, according to Qatar News Agency late Saturday.The two leaders reviewed regional developments amid continued Iranian attacks targeting Qatar and other states in the region.The emir stressed that the ongoing escalation could have “dangerous consequences” for international security and peace, underscoring the importance of containing the crisis and intensifying diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.He said Qatar would take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, security and national interests in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.Both sides also emphasized the need for joint efforts to preserve regional and international stability and support political pathways to ease tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.
