DOHA — Qatar said Monday that its air defenses shot down two SU-24 aircraft and intercepted seven ballistic missiles and five drones launched toward the Gulf state.In a statement, Qatar’s Defense Ministry said the Qatar Emiri Air Force successfully downed two SU-24 aircraft originating from the Islamic Republic of Iran.The ministry added that air defense systems intercepted seven ballistic missiles, while the Qatar Emiri Air Force and Qatar Emiri Navy Forces neutralized five drones targeting several areas across the country.“The threat was addressed immediately upon detection in accordance with the operational plan,” the statement said, stressing that all missiles were intercepted before reaching their intended targets.The ministry emphasized that Qatar’s armed forces possess full capabilities and resources to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territory and to respond firmly to any external threat.Authorities also urged citizens, residents and visitors to remain calm, follow official security instructions, avoid spreading rumors and rely solely on information issued through official channels.The development comes amid escalating regional tensions following large-scale US-Israeli strikes on Iran on Saturday, which reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
