RAMALLAH, West Bank — Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man and detained at least 11 others during raids across the occupied West Bank on Sunday, according to Palestinian medics and local sources. The Palestinian Health Ministry said Ammar Hijazi, 34, was killed by Israeli fire in the Ayoun al-Haramiya area north of Ramallah in the central West Bank. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Hijazi was critically wounded after Israeli police opened fire on his vehicle near the Ayoun al-Haramiya junction and was later pronounced dead. Israeli police said the driver was shot after refusing orders to stop. Israeli forces also raided the Al-Arroub refugee camp north of Hebron in the southern West Bank, detaining four Palestinian brothers, local sources said. Five additional Palestinians were detained in raids in the Aktaba suburb east of Tulkarem, as well as in the towns of Kafr Zibad and Kafr Abboush to the south, according to Wafa. Local sources said another young man was detained after Israeli forces raided his home in Kafr Dan, west of Jenin in the northern West Bank. In the village of Deir Ghassaneh, northwest of Ramallah, Israeli forces detained a previously released prisoner following a search of his home. Palestinian officials said Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,109 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since October 2023. Nearly 11,000 people have been injured and about 21,000 detained during the same period. In July, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion declaring Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
