TEHRAN — Assembly of Experts has selected a new supreme leader to succeed Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike, a senior Iranian cleric said Sunday.Ahmad Alamolhoda said the leadership vote had already taken place and that reports claiming the assembly had not yet made a decision were “completely false.”Speaking in remarks carried by Mehr News Agency, Alamolhoda said a successor had been chosen but did not reveal the name.He said under Iran’s Constitution no one, including members of the Assembly of Experts, has the right to change their vote once the decision is made.Alamolhoda added that the official announcement of the new supreme leader depends on Hashem Hosseini Bushehri, who is responsible for formally communicating the assembly’s decision to the public.
