DUBAI — Emirates and Etihad Airways announced on Friday the gradual resumption of limited flight operations from their main hubs after several days of disruption caused by escalating regional tensions. Both airlines had suspended operations following the launch of joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries. With parts of regional airspace gradually reopening, the two carriers said operational processes are beginning to normalize.Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways said it has prepared a limited flight schedule valid until March 19, operating services to around 70 destinations including Frankfurt, London and Paris.Dubai-based Emirates said flights to 82 destinations will operate until further notice. The airline also noted that transit passengers through Dubai will only be permitted to travel if their onward connecting flights are confirmed.Passengers with existing reservations will be given priority on available flights, while travelers without confirmed bookings were advised not to go to the airport. Both airlines said they are closely monitoring the evolving security situation and that flight schedules may change depending on developments.Meanwhile, a Lufthansa aircraft chartered by the German government transported German citizens in need of assistance from Gulf countries to Frankfurt on Thursday morning.Johann Wadephul said two additional evacuation flights would be arranged as part of Germany’s efforts to assist its nationals amid the regional crisis.
